Conscious Breathing to Reduce Anxiety

If you are struggling with anxiety and need to find some calm conscious breathing is a great way to do it.

I found out about this from a lovely friend of ours called Tony. Tony has practiced meditation for many years and he is the calmest, most wonderful person to be around. He shared these two breathing techniques with us one night when he came to dinner. Both are great for breaking the panic cycle and restoring a sense of calm. Feel free to share:

1.Alternative Nostril Breathing

Use your right hand thumb to close your right nostril
Breathe in gently through the left nostril
Pause naturally and easily for 1-2 seconds at the top
Release the thumb
Use our right hand middle finger to close your left nostril
Breathe out gently through the right nostril
Pause naturally and easily for 1-2 seconds at the bottom
Repeat from the beginning
Become increasingly aware of the 1-2 second gap which is your divine, calm, blissful, inner nature

2. Soham Mantra Breathing

Breathe in deeply as you imagine the sound SO

Pause naturally and easily for 1-2 seconds at the top.

Breathe out steadily as you imagine the sound HAM

Pause naturally and easily for 1-2 seconds at the bottom

Repeat from the beginning

Become increasingly aware of the 1-2 second gap, which is your divine, calm, inner blissful nature.
